Why did Jehosaphat allow his son to marry the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel? PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Hi Isaac, shalom.

Why did Jehosaphat allow his son to marry the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel? Jehosaphat was so dedicated to God and even destroyed the high places. So he knew for sure that it was an abomination in the eyes of God. Why did he even became friends with Ahab? If he knew the heart of his oldest son was not right towards God, why did he give him the kingdom, knowing he would drag the people away from God into idolatory?

Shalom,

Grace

Rabbi Isaac Levy responds...

This requires a lot of detailed response, the short of it is, that many characters in the bible portray the nation of Israel, the name Jehoshaphat means "God has Judged". Jehoshaphat represents Yeshua and his son represents Israel. Why did Israel chose to rebel against God after all the miracles God has done for them? God is a god who allows free will to all his creation, as it happened in heaven so is happening on earth; Free will to all with rewards to both camps- the ones who walk in obedience eternal life, to the other eternal damnation.
